A Former Reformed Episcopal Deacon Interviews Bishop Spong
Brad Drell @ 8:31 am

Check it out. This is important because it offers help in the area of apologetics, as it discusses Spong’s latest book, the sins of scripture.

I also find it interesting about Bishop Spong’s background, that being fundamentalist. He seems to be raging against his upbringing, to the point of turning even on the Episcopal Church and its doctrine. I also found it interesting to “listen” to him speak these words. There is a lot of subtlely there, even a certain pain in his voice.

One of his main points is that he won’t allow anyone to have their own facts. I find it interesting in that he seems to put himself as the final arbiter of facts. What he fails to realize is that the facts are almost always in dispute. The scientific evidence regarding homosexuality, and its ill-health effects especially as to male homosexuality, does not favor Spong’s position. It must be quite difficult to discuss things with Bishop Spong. He also refuses to be pinned down by what he himself says. He says it is impossible to be a Christian and be a rascist, a homophobe, and so on, but then he won’t say this is a litmus test for who is Christian and who is not.
