Episcopal bishop backs Obama

Rev. Gene Robinson says Illinois senator is "not just another business-as-usual politician."

The Episcopal Church's first openly gay bishop backed Democrat Barack Obama for President yesterday, saying the Illinois senator "represents our greatest hope."

Bishop Gene Robinson, who is at the center of a worldwide controversy that threatens to split the Anglican church, promised, "I will not be speaking about the campaign from the pulpit or at any church function. That is completely inappropriate. "But as a private citizen, I will be at campaign events and help in any way that I can."

Obama supports civil unions but not gay marriages.
