Church chiefs slam homophobic claim

Leaders of a traditionalist Anglican grouping have described claims they were homophobic as a "myth" as they insisted their movement was not about seizing power in the Church.

Key figures in the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans, a movement set up at the weekend in Jerusalem, said they were not a political grouping and were intent on reasserting the authority of the Bible.

Archbishop Peter Jensen, of Sydney, Australia, a leading figure in the Gafcon movement (Global Anglican Future conference) which set up the movement, told a news conference in London that they were dedicated to restoring order in the "chaos" over the last five years in the Anglican Communion.

He said: "What we have got to understand about Gafcon is that it is not a political movement it is a movement for Christ and the Gospel. It is a movement to reassert the authority of the Bible over the Church and the importance of the Gospel for the Church." the rest
