Have you noticed how many Episcopal churches and dioceses seem taken by the ENNEAGRAM fad? This announcement was sent to me from a friend still in the Diocese of Central New York. It was part of the diocesan e-news update...

St. James Episcopal Church in Skaneateles presents a presentation of the ENNEAGRAM on April 24 & 25, 2009 in our parish hall

The ENNEAGRAM is an ancient spiritual tool concerning the nine basic personality types and how they work in our lives. Work with the ENNEAGRAM can help to develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and others and why we do what we do. It enables us to break free from worn-out coping strategies and begin to see life from a broader point of view. The ENNEAGRAM is a tool that we can use to discover the answers to the following questions: Who am I on the inside? Why do I do what I do?

Who are you? If I am made in the image of God, why don't I see it in myself and others?

There will be time for quiet, group interaction and reflection.

So the "ENNEAGRAM" will help us "break free from worn out coping strategies, tell us who we really are on the inside, and explain the root of our behavioral patterns...wow. Who needs Jesus when you can get the Enneagram? Comments at Stand Firm

Appaling (sp?). This, along with a "small group" study of "the provocative, best selling story of a man searching for answers is the icing on the cake for this place. a "beautiful story of how God comes to find us in the midst of our sorrows", is at best, deplorable. Read the Bible and you'll really see how God finds us and us, Him!
