Long Prairie congregation votes to exit ELCA

The more than 700-member American Lutheran Church in Long-Prairie, Minn., passed its second and final vote to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

The more than 700-member American Lutheran Church in Long-Prairie, Minn., passed its second and final vote to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

At the May 23 meeting, 92 percent of the estimated 200 voters cast their ballot to leave the ELCA, said the Rev. Bill Bakewicz, the congregation’s pastor.

American Lutheran Church is listed as having 737 members and an average attendance of 189 in the ELCA 2010 yearbook. the rest
