Happy Birthday, Bishop Dan Herzog!

Bp. Dan Herzog celebrating the Eucharist today on a very special birthday

"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be fresh and flourishing."
-Psalm 92:12-14

What a beautiful image! It is the perfect picture of a priest lifting up the cup of salvation and the light, dark, composition, color are exquisite. Is it a photograph or a painting?

Raymond attended Bp. Dan's birthday party last Saturday at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center and took this picture at the chapel there. The focus wasn't perfectly sharp and it contributes to the luminous quality. The only adjustment I made was to crop it. I also thought it was a striking, timeless image of priest and Eucharist!

Please give him my rave compliments! The focus is perfect...and your cropping as well. It is lovely - a classic - reminds me of a John Singer Sargeant painting! I hope he will frame a print for Bishop Herzog...and one to put on the wall of the church.

PS - I studied art and have a couple of degrees in drawing, painting and art history, so I was especially enthralled with this beautiful image.

The light on his robes and sleeves is repeated in the table cloth...the warm reds are evenly distributed...but the face is so mild, serious and spiritual...and I love the way the emphasis is on the gentle expressive hands and the cup.

It is a remarkable and wonderful happy accident...a divine intervention, perhaps?
