Anglican Church in North America Assembly to Draw Global Anglican Leaders

Gathering of Orthodox Anglicans to be Held June 7-9 in North Carolina

WHAT: The 2012 Assembly meeting of the Anglican Church in North America will draw clergy and lay leaders from its nearly 1,000 congregations across the United States and Canada, along with Anglican leaders from around the globe.

This meeting of the whole church is the first of its kind since the Anglican Church in North America’s inaugural gathering in June 2009. The theme is “Captivating Disciples, Multiplying Congregations and Transforming Communities.”

WHO: The event will include a “State of the Church” address from the head of the Anglican Church in North America, Archbishop Robert Duncan, along with speeches and presentations from Anglican leaders including the Archbishop of Kenya, Eliud Wabukala, and The Rt. Rev. Rennis Ponniah, Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Singapore. There will also be a panel discussion featuring Anglican Primates.

Planting new churches will be a topic of particular focus with a keynote address from Dr. Ed Stetzer of LifeWay Christian Resources and a session featuring well-known author, church planter and speaker Bishop Todd Hunter.

The Baroness Caroline Cox, member of the British House of Lords and champion for human rights around the world will also be speaking.

WHEN: Thursday, June 7 – Saturday, June 9
--Archbishop Duncan’s “State of the Church” address will be delivered on Thursday, June 7 at 1:30 p.m.
--The Primates Panel on “Emerging Anglicanism” will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9.
