Fact Checking the Fact-Checkers at First Debate; The real scandal of New York City's Sandy recovery...more

Fact Wreck: Fact Checking the Fact-Checkers at First Debate   ...Over the past several years, mainstream media outlets have introduced “fact check” services to respond to statements by politicians during election season and debates.

Ostensibly, “fact-checking” aims to help the public make more informed decisions, both by helping them see past the candidates’ political spin, and by helping them see which candidates are more truthful. In practice, “fact-checking” is weighted against Republicans, largely because fact-checkers evaluate Republicans more than Democrats.

When fact-checkers do scrutinize Democrats, the party of the left often enjoys the benefit of the doubt. For example, when Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton first faced questions about whether she used her secret private email server to send or receive classified material, the Washington Post gave her a mere two Pinocchios (out of four) when she claimed she had not. For months, evidence mounted that Clinton had lied. Only when FBI Director James Comey said that Clinton had, indeed, exchanged classified material through her email server — while declining to prosecute her for the same — did the Post upgrade its rating from two to four Pinocchios...

The real scandal of New York City's Sandy recovery ...As project director Amy Peterson told the City Council last week, it’s the usual: New York is terrible at building anything. “Our costs in New York city are three times, generally, higher than the average of the 20 highest cities,” she said.

That’s in part because New York can never decide if it’s building things or remaking society. Peterson catalogued how requirements that unions hire a certain number of minorities, women, underprivileged people and people from flood-hit neighborhoods have cost time and money, because there are only so many people who can do this work.

Peterson also mentioned “complex site conditions” at homes “adjacent to major volumes of water.”...

Washington Monument closed indefinitely over elevator’s ‘reliability issues’ ...
The Park Service said there have been varied reasons for the elevator troubles. One of the biggest issues is that the elevator is 15 years old and has mechanical and electrical systems that are nearly worn out, officials have said.

Also, some of the damage from the quake on Aug. 23, 2011, is just now being discovered. Litterst said moisture might have gotten into cracks and into mechanical areas...

Venezuelan children fainting in school because they are hungry  ...According to a poll conducted last month by More Consulting among 2,000 respondents in Caracas, in 48 percent of the times children do not attend school, the cause is related to the food. Either they are feeling too weak for lack of nutrition, or their parents rather use the transport money to buy food, or they are in the food lines with their parents.

The poll revealed that 36.5 percent of children eat only twice a day and 10.2 percent just once. For 11.9 percent of the children, which means 964,737 kids, the 5-bolivars school lunch is their only meal of the day...

CORONAL HOLE TURNS TOWARD EARTH
A large coronal hole is turning toward Earth, and it is spewing a stream of high-speed solar wind. NOAA forecasters expect the stream to reach our planet on Sept. 28-29 with a 50% chance of G1-class geomagnetic storms when it arrives. At this time of year, even a gentle gust of solar wind can spark bright polar auroras. The incoming stream is almost sure to provoke a nice display.

The Charlotte Riots: What They Are Not Telling You; After School Satan Club must be allowed to proceed...more

The Charlotte Riots: What They Are Not Telling You
And with all of these activities having been documented in the clip below, it is worth pointing out that:
◦Stealing and looting cash registers from local businesses is not a legitimate form of protest
◦A “protester” shooting another “protester” is not a legitimate form of protest.
◦Physically attacking reporters is not a legitimate form of protest.
◦Throwing rocks off bridges at passing vehicles full of families is not a legitimate form of protest
◦Beating up innocent people in parking lots because they’re white is not a legitimate form of protest.
◦Smashing up apartment windows where black people live to “protest” in favor of ‘Black Lives Matter’ is not a legitimate form of protest.
◦Trashing your own neighborhood is not a legitimate form of protest.
◦Looting the Charlotte Hornets team store so you can steal basketball merchandise is not a legitimate form of protest
◦Attempting to hijack cars and terrify their innocent occupants is not a legitimate form of protest.

What was unfolding in Charlotte - and may still be - is not a protest. It’s a violent, unjustified riot by criminals and thugs. The question is why is the media giving it legitimacy by still referring to it as a protest?...

DHS memo admits refugee fraud ‘easy to commit’   Refugee fraud is “easy to commit” and much tougher to detect, Homeland Security officials acknowledged in an internal memo made public by members of Congress Thursday that challenges the department’s own assurances as it seeks to increase the number of refugees from dangerous countries.

The U.S. has relaxed requirements for refugees to prove they are who they say they are, and at times may rely solely on testimony. That makes it easier for bogus applicants to conspire to get approved, according to the department memo, which was obtained by the House Judiciary and Oversight committees...

Lawyer: After School Satan Club must be allowed to proceed ...The Mount Vernon district is one of nine throughout the country that has been chosen by the Satanic Temple to host a pilot After School Satan Club program because the districts also host a Good News Bible Club, which is run by the Child Evangelism Fellowship.

"We didn't invite them to the school, they put our name on a website," Centennial Principal Erwin Stroosma said. "We feel like we're pawns in a game — someone else is manipulating us."

The temple's application proposes renting space at Centennial for about an hour after school one day a month during the school year.

"This is going to be infectious and widespread," said Mike Cheek, who has grandchildren in the district. "I know that if there is anything to do with Satan, it is dark and it is evil."...

Leviticus Scroll Discovery Shows Scripture’s Inerrancy
...Once the Ein-Gedi scroll was available for biblical scholars to study, it proved highly significant: The text scholars can read is identical to the Hebrew Masoretic Text used today.

Radiocarbon results indicate scribes copied the scroll in the third or fourth century, but a report from paleographer Ada Yardeni, an authority on Hebrew text, states it likely dates back to the second half of the first century.

Either way, the scroll proves those 18 lines of God’s law have not changed, one jot or tittle, in at least 1,700 years...

This Past Weekend Modern Europe Died; Pushing Kids Into Transgenderism Is Medical Malpractice...more

This Past Weekend Modern Europe Died
...Now we have come full circle. It was widely reported on Saturday that a terminally ill 17-year-old became the first minor to be officially euthanized in Belgium since age restrictions on euthanasia were lifted in 2014. Jacqueline Herremans, a member of Belgium’s federal euthanasia commission (death panel?), said in a French media report, “The euthanasia has taken place.” She further announced that the euthanasia was done “in accordance with Belgian law.”...

StemExpress unanimously held in contempt of Congress for stonewalling baby body parts investigation  The House Select Panel on Infant Lives has voted to hold StemExpress in contempt of Congress for stonewalling its investigation into the harvesting and sale of aborted babies’ body parts.

The vote took place this afternoon on an 8-0, party line vote. After multiple attempts to scuttle or delay the vote with procedural motions, the panel’s six Democrats refused to take part in the final vote.

After a series of undercover videos from the Center for Medical Progress exposed Planned Parenthood’s “fetal tissue donation” program last year, the House of Representatives established a special panel to investigate whether their actions violated federal laws against selling human organs. Federal law – specifically, Title 42 USC Section 289g-2 – makes selling human fetal tissue a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison or a fine of $500,000, or both...

Child Euthanasia Center in Netherlands Expected to Open Soon Allowing Doctors to Euthanize Children  Professor Eduard Verhagen, who is responsible for the Groningen protocol for the euthanasia of infants, has predicted that a centre for the euthanasia of children will open within a year in the Netherlands.

Under current Dutch legislation, euthanasia is legal for infants up to a year old, and for children over the age of twelve.

However, according to Professor Verhagen, who the Dutch newspaper AD calls “the authority in the field of child euthanasia”, doctors are already investigating the practice of euthanasia for children between the ages of one and twelve. “We think that some children under the age of twelve are well able to make such important decisions,” he said...

Archbp. Peter Jensen: The Power of the Laity

31peter-jensen-200x300
September 18th, 2016

It’s odd.  Sometimes you would think that the Church is the business of the clergy only, and the laity count for little or nothing.

Of course, earlier generations even used language (‘going into the Church’ when they meant entering the ministry) which betrayed such a way of thinking. As well, the services of decades ago were entirely conducted by the clergy with little or no lay participation, at least in my part of the world.
But, for many decades now there has been a recognition that ‘God’s Frozen People’ (to use the title of a popular book from the 1960s) needed to be unfrozen and the opportunities for public ministry have grown enormously. The biblical teaching that the church is the Body of Christ has become central to our way of thinking and the gifts of God’s people recognised, at least in theory.

Of course this is consistent with Anglicanism since the Reformation. The Bible then became a gift to the whole church, and people were encouraged to listen to it in their own language, to own it, to read it aloud to their families. When it comes to the Scriptures, we are meant to, ‘hear them, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them’ as the Collect for the Second Sunday in Advent says.  Inherent in the idea of getting people to hear and read the Bible is a view that we are all accountable for what we read and how we respond to the Lordship of Christ.

Access to the Bible empowers the laity. It enables them to test all things for themselves. It enables them to live the Christian life both inside and outside the Church.

It is significant that when the Apostle Paul speaks directly to the Church in Corinth about the way in which various patterns of behaviour were inconsistent with the gospel, he does not address the ministers of the church, but the church itself, every member of it. 1 Corinthians is not a note from the bishop to ‘his’ clergy, an ad clerum.  Paul regards the discipline and the obedience of the church to be the responsibility of all.

Now don’t get me wrong. I am a Bishop myself and I believe in due order and responsibility. But I also recognise that all the members of the Church, have an ultimate responsibility under God for the spiritual and theological well-being of their Church. Essentially, they are not to support false teaching or false teachers and they are to know the truth and to test what they see and hear by it (see 2 Peter 2, for example)... the rest

Satanic Temple headquarters to opening in Salem; Samsung’s Rush to Beat Apple...more

Satanic Temple headquarters to opening in Salem When The Satanic Temple officially opens its doors on Friday, Salem will become home to the organization’s international headquarters.

But pitchfork-wielding mobs protesting the move seem unlikely, as the fire-and-brimstone theology of the Puritans who once populated the city has given way to a “live and let live” attitude in present day Salem.

Less than a mile from Gallows Hill — the notorious spot where villagers executed more than a dozen people accused of witchcraft in the 1690s — an 1882 Victorian on Bridge Street will serve as The Satanic Temple’s first physical headquarters, said Lucien Greaves, the temple’s spokesman...

Argentine bishop threatened with prosecution for condemning ‘culture of fornication’ The Catholic archbishop of the Argentinean city of La Plata is under investigation by the country’s “discrimination” police for condemning the modern acceptance of sexual promiscuity and “unnatural” unions, according to local media sources.

Archbishop Héctor Aguer has incurred the wrath of Argentina’s Secretary for Human Rights and perhaps the government’s National Institute Against Discrimination, Xenophobia, and Racism for writing that modern society’s culture of promiscuity is “banal,” “animalistic,” and “infantile.”

In a recent article written for the La Plata newspaper El Dia, Aguer laments that the act of “carnal copulation outside of marriage” has been “transformed into something trivial, common, unsubstantial.”...

David Brooks: Dignity and Sadness in the Working Class ...There is often a sad, noncumulative pattern to working-class lives. In some professions as you get older, you rise to more responsible positions. And that was true under the old seniority-based work rules in factories.

But now there is a stochastic, episodic nature to many careers. As workers get older, potential employers become more suspicious of their skills, not more confident in them. As a result, you often meet people who had been happiest at work in middle age, and then moved down to a series of positions they were overqualified for and felt diminished in.

Furthermore, I often run across people who have gone back to menial work in their 60s and 70s because they just want to get out of the house. When you ask them more questions, you find that they are devoted to home and work, but that they often don’t have rich connections outside these spheres.

Many of their friends came through work, but those friendships tend to fade away when the job ends. There are older people who feel unneeded. There are younger people who feel lost. Somehow these longing souls never find each other.

Suburbia isn’t working. During the baby boom, the suburbs gave families safe places to raise their kids. But now we are in an era of an aging population, telecommuting workers and single-person households.

"We Haven't Seen This Since The Great Depression"-Gallup CEO Destroys The "Recovery" Lie Here's the crisis: The deaths of small businesses recently outnumbered the births of small businesses. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the total number of business startups and business closures per year crossed for the first time in 2008. In the nearly 30 years before that, the U.S. consistently averaged a surplus of almost 120,000 more business births than deaths each year. But from 2008 to 2011, an average of 420,000 businesses were born annually, while an average of 450,000 per year were dying.

Bottom line: The two most trusted institutions in the U.S. are the military and small business. Most people know about our military's importance, but not as many appreciate the role small business plays in creating the majority of new jobs and in national security itself...

Samsung’s Rush to Beat Apple
...So the top brass at Samsung Electronics Co., including phone chief D.J. Koh, decided to accelerate the launch of a new phone they were confident would dazzle consumers and capitalize on the opportunity, according to people familiar with the matter. They pushed suppliers to meet tighter deadlines, despite loads of new features, another person with direct knowledge said. The Note 7 would have a high-resolution screen that wraps around the edges, iris-recognition security and a more powerful, faster-charging battery. Apple’s taunts that Samsung was a copycat would be silenced for good.

Then it all backfired. Just days after Samsung introduced the Note 7 in August, reports surfaced online that the phone’s batteries were bursting into flame. By the end of the month, there were dozens of fires and Samsung was rushing to understand what went wrong. On Sept. 2, Koh held a grim press conference in Seoul where he announced Samsung would replace all 2.5 million phones shipped so far. What was supposed to be triumph had turned into a fiasco....

Same-Sex Marriage vs. the Real Thing; Navy to require transgender training...more

The Response to This Weekend’s Terror Attacks Showed Willful Blindness in Real Time  In the all too familiar pattern, things are going boom, Americans are under attack, and the American political class is already busy playing the “See No Jihad” minuet.

In a rational world, where our highest imperative would be to understand the threat that confronts us rather than to find the least offensive way of describing it, it would be patently, undeniably obvious that we are targets of international terrorism fueled by Islamic supremacist ideology. Nevertheless, the political class can only bring itself to say this kicking and screaming, and only if there is no other plausible alternative — which basically means a terrorist caught in the act while wearing an ISIS T-shirt...

More Than 800 Immigrants Mistakenly Granted Citizenship The U.S. government has mistakenly granted citizenship to at least 858 immigrants from countries of concern to national security or with high rates of immigration fraud who had pending deportation orders, according to an internal Homeland Security audit released Monday.

The Homeland Security Department's inspector general found that the immigrants used different names or birthdates to apply for citizenship with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and such discrepancies weren't caught because their fingerprints were missing from government databases.

DHS said in an emailed statement that an initial review of these cases suggest that some of the individuals may have ultimately qualified for citizenship, and that the lack of digital fingerprint records does not necessarily mean they committed fraud...

Same-Sex Marriage vs. the Real Thing: A Gay Man’s View of the Big Picture   ...I am now a Christian, and even though I am same-sex attracted—or, more likely, because I am same-sex attracted—I marvel at the extraordinary significance of marriage in God’s eternal plan. Marriage is under siege because it stands at the heart of the Good News of the Gospel.

I am neither a philosopher nor a theologian, and I possess no advanced degree, but I try to be an informed observer and reasoning contributor as best I can. As a former apologist for the sexual revolution, and as a gay man who once promoted same-sex marriage, here's what I’ve concluded.

No matter what you read or hear, the heart of the battle over the redefinition of marriage and genderlessness in culture is not found in our courts, legislatures, ballot boxes, or media. This is not a tug of war between political parties, between left and right, conservative and liberal. Likewise, this is not a battle of “gay versus straight.” And while focusing on religious liberty is an absolutely necessary pursuit, if it stands by itself, it too misses the mark.

Taken as a whole, this is a war of one kingdom against another. At its heart, this is a spiritual battle...

Navy Requires All Sailors to Undergo Transgender Education by July 2017 ......It is unclear what exactly is in these training sessions yet, but the Navy will soon send out messages with more information.

In the meantime, leadership is putting together a commander’s tool kit that will guide training, said Lt. Jessica Anderson, a spokeswoman for Naval Personnel Command, to Military.com.

“Service members are expected to maintain standards of conduct and treat each other with dignity and respect,” Anderson said. “Training for sailors will be conducted by command triads via mobile training teams or DVD with a facilitation guide if the unit is in a remote area and unable to receive face-to-face training. There will also be webinars for COs to ask questions prior to delivering training to their commands.”

The training deadline is set to coincide with the date that the Navy will start accepting transgender recruits, July 1, 2017...

London Counterterrorism Officer Quits Over Double Standard For Muslims   ...Saeed claims Muslim officers working for London’s Metropolitan Police were often racist toward white officers. But few people take seriously the claim that a minority can be racist against a non-minority. What’s often called “reverse racism” is dismissed as being racist itself. The conversation, it would seem, is closed on this issue. Only whites can be racist. If minorities have negative views of whites, it must be because of their history of oppression...

The Worst Article Written By Anyone Ever
...Yasmin’s article – which I strongly recommend you don’t read: it’s the newspaper equivalent of the cursed videotape in The Ring – is a prolonged, victim-y whine about the horrors of cultural appropriation, prompted by her experiences at an Australian literary festival in which she objected to a talk by the US-born novelist Lionel Shriver.

Shriver, author of We Need To Talk About Kevin, is not impressed by Generation Snowflake’s obsession with cultural appropriation. Though she didn’t actually wear a sombrero on this occasion (she has in the past), she found plenty of opportunities in her keynote speech at Brisbane Writers’ Festival to mock the ludicrous SJW fad...

GAFCON UK Statement re: 'Bishops' Reflection Group' on homosexuality

GAFCON UK Statement
...following the appointment of a 'Bishops' Reflection Group' on homosexuality
18th September 2016

GAFCON UK is puzzled as to why the Church of England needs a 'Bishops' Reflection Group' on homosexuality.  Resolution 1.10 of the 1998 Lambeth Conference is clear, and the Bible is universally clear.  We stand with our brothers and sisters in Christ who are same-sex attracted, and faithfully living according to God's revealed plan for human flourishing.  As pastors, teachers, friends, and neighbours we can have no other response.  The Church of England needs to have the courage of its foundational convictions, return to them, and move on to its mission of calling the nation to turn to Christ as the only Saviour and Lord.

[See original Statement from the Church of England following the September meeting of the College of Bishops, here].

Gledhill: Anglicans divided over new bishops' group on homosexuality ...Conservative and liberal Christians have criticised a new bishops' group set up to discuss the issue of homosexuality.

Some conservatives are upset that such a group has been set up at all.

Liberal Anglicans are equally angry, complaining that the new Bishops' Reflection Group contains no members who have advocated a change in the Church's traditional teaching on marriage.

Others however have welcomed its membership as faithfully representing Biblical teaching on gay sex...

A homosexuality debate by Church of England bishops will remain private to allow views to "deepen and flourish" ...talks were "constructive"... bishops will be in conversation...reflecting... blah, blah, blah...

The cross of Christ....

hanging
The whole stream and drift of the Old Testament moves straight to the cross of Christ. The whole New Testament is nothing but the portrait of Christ. Let a man seek the true course of his own life in the Word, and inevitably it will land him at the cross, to seek mercy as a perishing sinner in the Saviour’s wounds; and let him, starting afresh from this point of departure, seek his true course still farther, and inevitably what he will see will be, rising upon him in the distance, astonishing and enchaining him, but drawing him ever on, the image of perfection in the man Christ Jesus. ...James Stalker image

Stone From High Priest’s Breastplate Believed Found; Egyptian youths escape Sharia inferno...more

Egyptian youths escape Sharia inferno
...Mocking Islam or mocking the prophet of Islam spells doom. In Egypt you will be arrested, home and property confiscated, and coerced to “force emigrate” from your town. Then count on a five-year prison term. This was exactly the penalty for four Coptic Christian school boys, ages 14 through 17, and their teacher.

Modernity grazed the 7th century when a lost cell phone turned up in the hands of a sectarian street thug ready for Sharia justice against its owner...

Prophetic Lost Stone From High Priest’s Breastplate Believed Found After 1,000-Year Journey  ...He noted the inscriptions in ancient Hebrew script of what he described as “the equivalent of our ‘B’ and ‘K’.” He identified the style of script, dating it to be from the year 1000 BCE, give or take 200-300 years.

In 1994, Dr. Joan Goodnick Westenholz, who served as Chief Curator at the Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem, examined the stone. She concluded, “It is a unique object that has no similar or identical counterpart; it is the only one of its kind in the world.”

Dr. Goodnick Westenholz believed that the gem was “priceless”, estimating the date of the stone’s production to be approximately the 7th century BCE. She noted the inscription “in the shape of a possible letter is a ninth century form of an archaic Hebrew letter bet.”

In her notarized report, she observed next to the letter bet “what can be perceived as the image of a wolf.” She noted that the wolf corresponded to the blessing Jacob gave Benjamin...

Turkey: Christians in Refugee Camps Forced to Hide Faith from Hostile Muslims

Baptist, Methodist, Episcopalian and Presbyterian Clergy Participate in Rally for Abortion Many Judeo-Christian leaders speak out against abortion, but the few who advocate for abortion often are the ones who get the most media attention.

On Monday in Kentucky, pro-abortion clergy held a rally at the State Capitol to advocate for abortion and other issues, the State-Journal reports. The event was called the Higher Ground Moral Day of Action, and it was held in conjunction with other rallies nation-wide.

Led by clergy, the event highlighted the upcoming election and called on candidates and elected officials to uphold “the most sacred moral principles of our faith and constitutional values.” These included “the economic liberation of all people; ensuring every child receives access to quality education; healthcare access for all; criminal justice reform; and ensuring historically marginalized communities have equal protection under the law,” according to the declaration...

“Catholics” for Choice Launches Ad Campaign Saying Women Abort Their Babies “in Good Faith”  ...The pro-abortion group “Catholics for Choice” has ads running in at least three states that target Catholic voters, Mercatornet reports. The full-page newspaper ads wrongly claim that abortion is a “Catholic social justice value” and urge voters to support abortion and taxpayer funding for it...

How Is the Godless West Working Out?
...The West has been in moral decline since World War I — the calamity that led not only to World War II but to the death of national identity and Christianity in most of Europe.

There has always been one exception — the United States. But now that is ending. The seeds of America’s decline have been sown since the beginning of the 20th century; and they came to fruition with the post–World War II generation — the baby boomers.

Radical and aggressive secularism and atheism have replaced religion in virtually every school and throughout public life in America.

We have gone from President Abraham Lincoln reading the Bible every day to Alaska Airlines feeling forced to stop placing a Biblical verse on its meal trays. In a hundred years, we’ve gone from near-total Biblical literacy to near-total Biblical illiteracy. One wonders whether half of America’s college seniors could correctly identify Cain and Abel, or more than one in ten Americans could cite the Ten Commandments. We have gone from President Franklin Roosevelt proclaiming in World War II speeches the need to save “Christian civilization” to a virtual ban on an American president mentioning the word “Christianity.” And as is widely noted, an American is no longer supposed to wish strangers a “Merry Christmas” and must refer to a Christmas party as a “holiday” party...

Canon Phil Ashey: Exigent Circumstances in the Anglican Communion ...So by analogy, I’d like to raise the question whether “exigent circumstances” or “emergency conditions” now exist in the Anglican Communion. The existing authorities and structures or “Instruments” of the Anglican Communion have failed to guard and uphold Biblical Christianity. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Lambeth Conference of bishops, Primate’s meetings and the Anglican Consultative Council have compromised with the spirits of the age to permit false teachers to invade the Church. The false teaching is about more than sexuality. Like all heresies that present themselves as minor teachings or disciplinary issues, they actually involve weightier matters – authority, scripture, the Gospel and who is Jesus...

A.S. Haley: Bishop Bruno -- the Hypocrite par excellence
This blog has on previous occasions taken to task the Bishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles for, as stated, speaking "with a forkèd tongue." Thus, those few Episcopalians who still bother to follow this blog written by a-no-longer-Episcopalian might be comforted to know that Bishop J. Jon Bruno continues in top form. And for this once, since the hypocrisy of Bishop Bruno on this occasion is so outlandish, I will forego my resolution to write no more about the apostate Episcopal Congregations of the United States of America, i.e., ECUSA -- yes, that rapidly disappearing group that has now endorsed collective blasphemy every time they celebrate a same-sex union.

As I previously reported, Bishop Bruno was the recipient of Title IV disciplinary charges filed against him by various Episcopalian members of St. James the Great, the choice parish in Newport Beach, California built upon donated property worth millions in today's real estate market. Prior to filing those charges, the same group had filed a civil action against Bishop Bruno in the Superior Court for Orange County. I discussed the background and the gravamen of the civil and canonical charges against +Bruno in this previous post...

Undeniable Proof of Jewish Temple Discovered; Church of French priest murdered by Islamists to reopen next month...more

Undeniable Proof of Jewish Temple Discovered
An incredible new discovery at the Temple Mount has produced the first-ever physical and archaeological evidence that the Jewish Second Temple stood on the Mount 2,000 years ago, upsetting Arab claims, increasingly endorsed by the international community, that the Temples never existed.

Archaeologists from the Temple Mount Sifting Project, salvaging artifacts from Muslim destruction at the Temple complex, have completed the restoration of ornate floor tiles which experts believe likely decorated the courtyard of the Second Jewish Temple. The project provides visible and incontrovertible proof, backed up by ancient texts and historical context, of a Jewish Temple on the Mount.

In total, archaeological teams have uncovered approximately 600 colored stone floor tile segments, with more than 100 of them positively dated to the Herodian Second Temple period (37-4 BCE)...

Church of French priest murdered by Islamists to reopen next month...The church where the French priest Father Jacques Hamel was murdered by Islamist terrorists in July is to reopen next month, the diocese has announced.

The church of Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray in the Rouen diocese will reopen on 2 October.

The objects left by well-wishers and mourners will become part of a memorial for the priest, said Eric de la Bourdonnaye, communications director of the diocese.

Services will begin again after a purification ceremony.

Five people were taken hostage and the priest was killed on July 26 by two extremists, Adel Kermiche and Abdel Malik Petitjean, who were both shot dead by police. Hamel had served the Church in the ministry for more than 50 years...

Gafcon Statement on the Appointment of the Bishop of Grantham
We note with prayerful concern the revelation that Nicholas Chamberlain, Bishop of Grantham, is in a same sex relationship.

Our understanding is that the nature of his relationship conforms to the guidelines set out by the Bishops, and that he has not been campaigning publicly for a change in the church’s teaching on sex and marriage. We do not doubt that he has many gifts as a leader and pastor.

However there are aspects of this appointment which are a serious cause for concern for biblically orthodox Anglicans around the world, and therefore we believe that this appointment is a major error.

In 2003, Jeffrey John’s candidacy for the post of Bishop of Reading caused deep divisions within the Diocese of Oxford and beyond, and this news about Nicholas Chamberlain will exacerbate the same divisions within the Church of England and throughout the wider Anglican Communion.

In this case the element of secrecy in the appointment to the episcopacy of a man in a same sex relationship gives the impression that it has been arranged with the aim of presenting the church with a ‘fait accompli’, rather than engaging with possible opposition in the spirit of the ‘shared conversations’.

We remain opposed to the guidelines for clergy and Bishops, permitting them to be in same sex relationships as long as they publicly declare that the relationship is not sexual. This creates confusion in terms of the church’s teaching on the nature of sex and marriage, and it is not modelling a helpful way to live, given the reality of our humanity, and temptation to sexual sin.

This news story will be seen by many orthodox Anglicans as yet more evidence that the clear biblical teaching in the Church of England on sin and salvation, human personhood, singleness, sex and marriage is being eroded and conformed to the values of secular society. While we pray for Bishop Chamberlain, our confidence in the processes by which he was appointed in are sadly, further diminished.

GAFCON UK exists to provide fellowship and if necessary, an alternative oversight for Anglicans committed to biblical orthodoxy in England, Scotland and Wales, from a range of ecclesial traditions, evangelical and catholic, with special focus on those who are losing confidence in local and national church structures to maintain faithfulness to doctrinal and ethical norms.

A.S. Haley: Bishop Bruno-the Hypocrite par excellence
